Canine Ambulatory System
Tip: Concentrations ranging from 10 to 10,000 units of heparin/ml can be used to successfully lock catheters and ports. High concentrations are more easily tolerated by large animals however lower concentrations should be used in rodents due to their relatively small blood volume. Always attempt to pull out lock solutions before using an indwelling catheter. Concentrations between 10 and 100 units/ml in rodents are recommended when the lock solution might be flushed into the animal. |
