Ambulatory Infusion Systems

Ambulatory infusion systems use an implanted or wearable syringe pump so that the animal is able to move freely. With this system, animals are not constrained by tethers and are able to explore and behave in a more natural way. With careful preparation animals, including primates, can be group-housed while receiving ambulatory infusions.

When compared to tethered infusion, ambulatory models reduce human interference as well as animal stress. Animals can be dosed with minimal human intervention, and may be monitored and controlled from outside of the animal room. This is essential for certain studies, such as safety pharmacology assessments.

TETHERED INFUSION

If you need to administer higher volumes or require protection of your pump, tethered infusion might be the better option.
