Jackets can reduce rubbing, but connecting and disconnecting the animal can be challenging. We've created a helpful adapter to improve the process.

Adding a jacket adapter with a luer injection valve (LIV) simplifies the infusion process for jacketed rodents. The adapter connects between the externalized catheter and the tether. It is held in place using Velcro so that the jacket and adapter can be securely fitted to the guinea pig. This simple addition makes cleaning, connecting and disconnecting more manageable. This system can be easily modified for blood collection studies by swapping the jugular vein catheter for the carotid artery
For protocols that require simultaneous infusion and blood collection, a two channel infusion system is required. Our jacket system for guinea pigs includes integrated luer injection valves (LIV) to minimize blood loss and speed up the connection/disconnection process. Harnesses can be good for long term studies since the belly bands can be adjusted to fit throughout the course of the study. However, for infusion and sampling studies we highly recommend CannuLock™ Catheter Access Buttons™.
